Hebrews 13:5-6
Key Verse: Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you
have, for He has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can
confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to
me?” Hebrews 12:5-6
Reflection: Did your parents or someone else teach you
about managing money? If so or if not,
how has that impacted your management of money today?
Study:
·
Read Hebrews 13:5-6 out loud multiple
times. As you do so, try to emphasize
each key word or phrase once each time.
For example, “KEEP your life free from love of money…” then “Keep YOUR
LIFE free from love of money…” What
stands out to you in this passage?
·
Hebrews 13:5-6 contains two commands, a reason,
and a result. How would you put each of
them in your own words?
·
What is the connection of this passage with the
rest of Hebrews? What point is the author making about your
relationship with money and things in comparison to your relationship with the
Lord?
·
How a believer handles money and possessions can
be a testimony to others about their faith.
How do you think someone else would describe your relationship with
money and things? Would you describe your relationship with such things as
being a positive example for others?
·
Read the following passages: Matthew
6:19-24; Luke 16:10-15; Philippians 4:11-19; 1 Timothy 6:6-11. After doing
so, brainstorm all the practical ways you can follow these commands: (1) Keep
your life free from the love of money and (2) Be content with what you have.
·
God has promised He will never abandon His
people. (Deuteronomy 31:6,8 and Joshua
1:5). Are you content in Him and
with Him in all the circumstances of your life?
If not, what gets in the way? How
can you remind yourself of His promise when you start
wavering?
