Hebrews 10:19-25
Hebrews 10:19-25
Key Verses: “Therefore, brothers, since we have
confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and
living way that He opened for us through the curtain, that is through his
flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us…” Hebrews 10:19-22

Read Hebrews
10:19-25 out loud. In this passage, the author
of Hebrews begins to transition to a different theme. What do you notice about the shift? What does the author seem to be calling his
readers to?
·
According to
verses 19-21, why can we confidently enter the holy places? What is the
“therefore” referring to?
·
Confidence (Gr. Parrēsia) as used in verse 19 can mean “1. Freedom in
speaking, unreservedness in speech; 2. Free and fearless confidence, cheerful
courage, boldness, assurance.”
o
What do you think
it means to enter God’s presence with freedom, courage, or boldness? Are there limits in how we can approach God?
o
Do you approach
God with such confidence? If not, what
gets in the way?
·
Jesus opened a
“new and living way” for us. What is
that way? How is it living? Look to Hebrews 3:12, 4:12, 9:14, 10:31, 12:9
and 12:22 for help in answering.
·
There are three
exhortations in verses 22-25 that begin with “let us.” Describe each of the exhortations in your own
words and then use the questions below to think about how you can respond to their
call to action.
o
Drawing near to
God (v. 22): How are we to do so? What draws you closer to God? What detracts from you doing so? Where can you change your priorities to
follow this exhortation?
o
Holding fast to
faith (v. 23): Why is this so
important? What robs you of your
faith? What gives you hope? How can you strengthen your faith?
o
Stirring up one
another (vv. 24-25): What are we called
do for one another? By what means? Why is having a community of believers so
important? How can you express your love
for other believers? How are you called
to serve them?
