John part 11-Can You See?
Key Verse: “And Jesus
said, ‘For judgment I came into this world, so that those who do not see may
see, and that those who see may become blind.’” John 9:39
In John chapter 9, Jesus opens the eyes of a man blind from
birth and his life is changed forever.
He loses some things, but ultimately gains everything – just by seeing
that Jesus is Lord. On the other hand,
others witnessed the same miracle and could not accept the truth. They became blind because of it. The key questions to ask yourself as you
study this week are this: Have you accepted the truth? Can you see?
Read John 9.

Make a chart of the main characters of this
chapter: Jesus, the Blind Man, His parents, and the Jews (Pharisees). List everything you learn about each in this
chapter. How does each of the characters
respond to Jesus’ miracle? What does it show about each of their hearts?
·
In verses 2-3, Jesus informs his disciples that
the man was not blind from sin, but “so that the works of God might be displayed
in Him. We must work the works of Him who sent me as long as it is day; night
is coming when no one can work. While I
am in the world, I am the Light of the World.”
What are the works of God that Jesus is referring to? What application does this verse have for us today? Look to Galatians 6:10 for guidance.
·
In verse 39, Jesus proclaims that “For Judgment,
I came into this world, so that those who do not see may see, and that those
who see may become blind.” Who can
see? Who is blind? Why? How
does this statement tie in with what Jesus says in verses 2-3?
Journal Prompt: Have
you ever thought you knew something – really knew something – only to have Jesus
open your eyes to the truth? How did you
respond? How did learning the truth
change your life?
