John part 4-Are you truly born again?

Key Verse for the Week :   John 3:3 “Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Truly, truly I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Too often people think that you have to do something or act a certain way for God to love them.  That is not true.  God loves us unconditionally. He did, however, give each one of us a choice.  Those who choose His Son Jesus are "born of the Spirit" and will have "eternal life." John 3:6, 15. Those who do not "remain of the flesh" and "cannot enter the Kingdom of God.". John 3:5-6.  As you study John chapter 3 this week, reflect on what believing in Jesus truly means and whether you have chosen Him. Read Chapter 3: 1-8 ·          Note all the times that Jesus mentions “born” or “born again.”   How does Jesus say that we can enter the kingdom of God?   ·          What do you think Jesus meant when ...

John part 3- Signs

In his gospel, John described specific events “so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.” John 20:30-31.   This week starts the beginning of John’s description of the signs and miracles.   Think about why John chose these particular events in Jesus’ life and what they show us about the nature of Jesus – both as God and man.   Reflect on what they mean to you.   Do you see these as stories in the bible?   Or do they mean more?   After you go through the passages and questions listed below, journal your thoughts.   Ask God to show you what He wants you to see from these two events in Jesus’ life on this earth. ·          Read John 2:1-12 o    What is the first event that John describes? o    Who was there? o    What happened? o    Why do you think that John recorded this particula...

John part 2-Will You Follow Jesus?

When we feel far from God, has He left us, or have we left Him?   Consider Romans 8:38-39 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. Will You Follow Jesus? ·          Read John 1:19-51 ·          In verse 19 we read that this section of scripture includes the testimony of John the Baptist. What two questions did the Pharisees ask John?   Who did John the Baptist say he was and what he was there to do? Why did John think Jesus was God? ·          Find all the other names for...

John part 1-Who Is Jesus

Do you follow a religion, or are you enjoying real life—an intimate relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ?   Are you sure you know the difference?-Kay Arthur Who is Jesus? This is the question.   If we call ourselves Christian, then our whole life is about knowing Him and becoming like Him-- telling others about Him.   In Him we find our life.   Without Him we are dead, lost in darkness. Today I'm going to be starting a new study co-written by my friend and co-study leader Callie!  She has been gracious enough to allow me to post her work here as well so the followers of my blog get to study the entire book with our ladies group.  Here is our first installment.  As I am posting this study on-line at the same pace my group completes them, I will have weekly posts. ·          Read John 1:1-18. ·          Find all the words that des...
